Ol’ Coot

Names don’t stick to me anymore. Hell, I call myself more names than any one person has ever called me. I don’t give myself a break but I treat others cordially unless they give me a reason not to. Most folks don’t give me a reason. Most people, I find, are straight talkers and have high moral values. That is actually what it takes to be conservative isn’t it? No lying to gullible or ignorant people. Instead, you help ’em out.

Combat changed the odd kid I was into someone who I didn’t recognize for many years. No, mirrors didn’t help. Booze made everything worse I found out years later. When I got home (and got out of the military – Navy) I thought it would be a great idea to get high and stay high. There were ever so many more avenues for highness than when I almost got drafted, hence, the Navy. (Don’t fret if you don’t get the connection. Look up: “draft.”)

It was a hospital stay that finally put me on the straight and narrow. When you need to get high it is amazing how many people you can fool some of the time! The hosital gave me a two and one half respite from high and once I got out I also had the spine to stay not high. To this day, as a matter of fact so that is around fourteen years and no AA or such thing. I just knuckled down. Of course, I retained my ability to smoke cigarettes and that saw me though the worst of withdrawals. Now I am off cigs also for a couple of months now. The beck and call is loud. I call it Satan’s song as I figured out who he is also. He is real as I am and is hard at work in our world now.

You don’t, of course, have to believe a damn thing I say. You can call me most anything except dishonest, that, I am not. I have nothing to lose except the brief time frame that I have have left. I could easily end tomorrow even though I have things to do that I don’t want my wife to have to do.

Are you sick of me yet? I am only now getting started and there is so little time to get it all down in print. The time for youth is long past and with it went the foolishness, to some degree. I sometimes write of my personal existence but I won’t here. Actually, it is boring as staring at a stucco wall waiting for some fool to paint it. Probably black paint if I know kids under 21. Anything except a favorable color. Kind of like civilization as we now know it. Paint it Black. Stones around 1968. Satisfaction? You gotta earn it.

Trouble, you gotta discern it and that wasn’t a song as far as I recollect. You gotta look for trouble and if you find it a lot you’re being really stupid aren’t you now? Smarten up is my advice. Watch what people do, don’t consider them boring or stupid, and figure out how to emulate them without moving into their houses. This all makes life simple . . . like it is supposed to be if you make military corners. Too much for one read?
