A.I or E.T.
It is getting more and more difficult to figure out where all of these abbreviations are pointing. Not that many years ago we were worried about E.T. and now it is A.I. Odd, how one supplanted the other so suddenly. E.T. led right down the dimly lit hallway to A.I. First door on your left, you may have to jiggle the handle. Old houses like this are prone to settling and the south corner is off level by two and one half inches, down.
The above short paragraph contains all the elements of our recent past. Out of level, E.T. and A.I. It is the out of level portion that worries me. Of course, being worried in a room by yourself has no influence on others unless you have the internet. Over the last few weeks I have been writing quite a lot but a lot of it was in the dark as I tried to tie so many loose ends together. Although I write the way I think, thoughts unbidden flow in and out as I type, it is all of these things we are speaking of or fictionalizing that are earth shattering in one way or another. It is rather like an architectural wonder that was poorly engineered. It reaches far to the sky, 200 stories, but one portion of the foundation is built on sand.
Last time I looked we were on Earth, right? What does Earth teach us about the universe? Not a damn thing. The universe is governed by laws we came up with on and are applicable only on . . . Earth, for all we know. We don’t know if everything three light-years away isn’t the opposite of what we think we know here. Likely it isn’t but who the hell knows until we get there, if we ever get there the way we’re going here on Earth.
The “laws” we have are laws from minds that have never left this planet. The are laws applicable on this planet but we seem to think we can apply them anywhere we want to say we understand. If we wee once apes we have no business going to space. Science can’t have it both ways. We cannot have been apes and be figuring all this out and we cannot use Earth as the foundation for laws of places we have not even dreamed of. Isn’t that swell headed of us? Kind of “spoiled brat” of us. How about just sheer ignorance based on bravado? You tell me.
